Concrete Advice
Dear Consumer Advisor,
Our driveway is laden with potholes. The pavement is the same concrete that we purchased when we bought our home. Since, we've never hired a contractor to repave our driveway, can you tell us how to qualify a reliable concrete contractor?

Dear INOCA,
We did some poking around. We contacted the American Concrete Institute (ACI). According to the ACI, the concrete industry is notorious for complaints. Driveways are expensive contracting projects. Hiring the best concrete contractor calls for a modicum of due diligence:
Seek Referrals
For a list of viable companies, you can do one of two things: 1) Contact the ACI directly at 248-848-3700 for a referral or visit the site at concrete.org and locate the chapter closest to you.
Obtain a minimum of three contractor quotes.
Check out other driveways that the company has completed. Be sure to review recent concrete projects as well as driveways, dating back to more than a decade ago.
Request Documentation
Ask the contractor for a copy of their license, public liability and workers' compensation policies.
