Eco-friendly Wonders of Vinegar

TAGS: vinegar, eco friendly cleaning alternative, non-toxic cleaner

Whoever said that store bought household cleaning products are the end all to dirt and scum, never knew the power of vinegar. White vinegar is a mild acetic acid solution geared for household cleaning and a bevy of health remedies.

A versatile, non-toxic alternative, vinegar is an eco-friendly wonder that  works on eliminating soap scum/build-up, stain removal and the dissolution of mineral deposits. Use these natural cleaning tips for sanitizing around the home with vinegar:

In the Laundry

Vinegar clears up the dullness accumulated from laundry detergents. As a clothes brightener, add a quarter cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle, and clothes take on a fresh new vibrancy.

Clear the Shower's Head

Wondering why it's taking so long for water to flow through the showerhead? It could have something to do with a collection of mineral deposits. Vinegar to the rescue, simply marinate part of the showerhead overnight (not including plastic washers and rubber). The next morning rinse, reassemble and voila, your shower's head has been cleared.

As a Surface Cleaner

Ideal for countertops, windows and other hard surfaces (with the exception of wood), a 50-50 mix of water and vinegar works as a cleaning solution.

Prevent a Clogged Drain

A one cup-concoction of baking soda blended with a cup of white vinegar creates a hot foamy mixture, ridding the drain of grease build-up.

Dating back to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), vinegar has earned a reputation for treating many medical issues, too. Recent scientific research validates the natural remedies of vinegar.  Here are five health issues that vinegar cures:

* Prevent an ear infection

* Diminishes age spots and blemishes

* Works as an appetite suppressant

* Relieves arthritis pain

* Settles an upset stomach

* And more

VInegar Odor Killer: To counter the pungent odor of vinegar, add an essential oil like lavender.
