Fitness programs differ in activity, intensity and of course cost. But when it comes to selecting a viable work out class, it's important to understand what one is signing up for -- well before the first session. Staying fit is all about keeping fitness fun. Depending on one's workout style, exercise classes are appropriate for people at specific endurance levels.

For an overview, the Consumer Journal compiled a list of the most popular work out classes:

Aerobics/Cardio-Workout
Exercise that incorporates the use of arms, legs with varying levels of high and low intensity, this exercise program is ideal for an all over body work out and for people with good endurance.

Aqua aerobics
Performed in the pool, movements vary from low to high impact use of the legs and arms. Since, many exercise programs can be harsh on the joints, aqua aerobics is commonly prescribed for people who suffer from arthritis and other orthopedic related conditions.

Bodyjam
A music lover’s kind of work out, Bodyjam is a dance-based work out that really works up a sweat. For the fitness maven in quest of extreme caloric burn, Bodyjam is a fun way to exercise and melt fat.

Body Step
Not recommended for people with weak knees, Body Step entails a series of choreographed movements performed on a height-adjusted platform. While the intensity of this work out program depends on the subscribers' skill level, it's a fun way to tone the muscles and improve coordination.

Cardio Kickboxing
Synchronized to the beat of music, kickboxing entails a series of non-contact movements, ranging from moderate and high intensities. This is an exceptional stress-relieving workout that is exceptional for the entire body.

Pilates
Similar to yoga, Pilates focuses on building the core and lengthening muscles. It supports lean body mass. While certain Pilates movements can be demanding, the program calls for fewer repetitions with faster toning results.

Spinning
On stationary bikes, the instructor leads participants through moderate to high intensity courses. From flat roads to excessively steep terrains, many spinning classes assimilate the conditions of the road. This fitness program is the perfect alternative for bicyclists in quest of a challenging in-door ride.

Yoga
A tradition in mental and physical exercise, yoga classes are stress erasing, fitness classes. The ultimate exercise program for any age, the Yoga work out tends to be quite affordable.
