Fall Eco-Fashion Preview

For the chic to the casually attired, Fall, eco-fashion 2008 presents numerous comfort styles. Here’s a mini-preview of what to expect in green-fashion from retailers and designers this fall:

H&M
This fall consumers may spend more for merino wool at H&M. The fast-fashion retailer is boycotting farmers who employ cruel measures on sheep for wool. Nevertheless, recycled polyesters and wools; as well as, organic cottons and wools are in ample supply this fall. H&M is all about color and style. Designs are either solid or nature inspired art. A meticulously tailored kimono jacket, fitted with dolman sleeves, and made of organic to recycled wool blend makes a chic impression – at work or play.

Patagonia
Versatile for mountain wear or urban wear, Patagonia's Fall Women's down sweater is modish, lightweight, comprised of 50 percent recycled polyester, and a shell of top quality European goose down.

Timberland
For men and women, Timberland has a new line of boots named, "Earthkeepers." The name is indicative of its eco-fashion qualities. The lining is comprised of 70 percent recycled material and the sole is 30 percent reprocessed rubber.  The boots are even packaged in a recycled cardboard box. Aside from using recycled goods to manufacture their clothes, Timberland keeps things green with a tree planting initiative.

Other Eco-Fashion Designers
This autumn, a few designers are redefining eco-fashion. Despite some of the manufacturing controversy, three couturiers have balanced comfort to classic style, seamlessly: Edun, Loomstate and Sameunderneath.

The retro themed fashion of the ‘40s continues to roar with sleek elegance this fall. At Barneys, eco-fashion mavens can find their favorite eco-designers: Edun and Loomstate. One hundred percent organic cotton, the Reflection Jean is Loomstate’s high-waisted jean. Available at Barney’s this jean has a rich, no-wash finish.

Designer, Sameunderneath gives the classic black dress an eco-fashion chic update.  A Jersey Cowl Dress, made of bamboo in an ultra soft fabric—is figure flattery for any body type. Dressed up with the prevailing sash trend, or down with a pair of strappy sandals, Sameunderneath’s three quarter inch black dress is ideal for warm Indian summer days and cooler Autumn nights--with a blazer of course. ($198)

The latest wardrobe addition, in vogue this autumn, is the robe. And, it’s not the type of robe limited to the confines of one’s home or spa. It’s the type of robe meant for public frolicking. With rich colors like dark brown, deep purple and esoteric blues, it will be interesting to see which organic or recyclable materials will egg on this new eco-fashion trend. And as for shoes, purses and other fashion accessories, just think sashes, straps, bling and sustainable materials.
