HDTV Shopping Checklist

HDTVs are more popular than ever. An expansive but flat panel screen makes for television in high definition. But not all HDTVs are the same. Buying one requires a little savoir-faire. Use these four HD television consumer shopping tips:
• Measure it
Prior to shopping for the 38 - 43 inch screen, decide where the new HDTV will live. To replicate a subdued movie theatre, plasma HDTVs are more conducive for darker living spaces. Since, LCD TVs are prone to the best visibility in luminous rooms, choose a bright room for this type of HDTV.
• Subscribe it
Unlike standard televisions, HDTVs require either an antenna for HD broadcast reception or a subscription to an HD package from either a cable company or satellite provider.
• Opt for Adequate Resolution
As far as resolution is concerned, any pixels over 720 is unnecessary and expensive. For starters, most television networks do not broadcast channels in 1000p. Unless, the HD television will be used for game consoles (ie. Playstation 3, XBOX 360) or as a computer monitor, 1000 pixels is overkill.
• Check the Outlets
If you plan to connect your HDTV to the rest of your entertainment center (stereo, speakers, DVD player, etc), look for a TV with a minimum of three outlets.
