Since August 2006, merely 288 salmonella cases have been reported across 39 states in association with contaminated peanut butter. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , the peanut butter salmonella outbreak is deemed as the first in the United States. >> Potentially infected jars may carry the following product code: 2111 (on the lid) Missouri New York, Tennessee Pennsylvania and Virginia have reported the largest number of salmonella cases.
>> Annually, some 40,000 Americans are afflicted by the salmonella infection with roughly 600 deaths.
