Christmas – Hanukkah Holiday Shopping 2006

Categories: Holiday gift ideas, consumer shopping, retailers, Christmas gift idea

As Christmas 2006 approaches its gift ripping reach, it appears as though more Americans are procrastinating this holiday season. Based on the results of the National Retail Federation's (NRF) 2006 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, tens of thousands of consumers have yet to start their Christmas gift shopping.

Polling numbers contend that only a little more than 10 percent or an approximate 23 million consumers have finished their holiday shopping. Here is a Christmas and Hanukkah shopping roundup of what’s happening across the nation:

>> Although sales at J.C. Penney and Kohl's appears to be on track, it may have something to do with the 50 percent of consumers who plan to finish their holiday shopping at department stores.

>> Thirty percent of consumers shop at specialty stores and online for novelties.

>> Merely 38 percent of last minute shoppers plan to complete their shopping at discount chains such as Wal-Mart and Target.

>> The National Retail Federation forecasts holiday sales from November through December to gain ground by five percent. That's significantly more sluggish than 2005's six percent increase.
