Travelers Be Cancellation Wary
Be it an airlines, hotel, bed and breakfast or whatever kind reservation/accommodations situation, travelers should be cognizant of cancellation policies. These stipulations vary and may result in seemingly consumer-incompatible procedures.
Here’s are a few practical consumer tips on cancellation policies:
Prior to finalizing any travel plan, inquire, review and inspect the cancellation policy. Be sure to determine whether the stipulations are suitable for your needs. For example, if you are booking accommodations for another person and using your credit card, make sure that your friend’s potential cancellation will not end up costing you.
If a cancellation to a hotel or bed and breakfast is inevitable, try to do it well in advance by phone.
Follow up the cancellation in writing via email, too. Be sure to check the email address for accuracy and submit a carbon copy to yourself. (This way you will have a timestamp of when the cancellation was sent).
The Consumer Journal ranked three hotel chains based on the leniency of their cancellation policy.
