Traveling Baggage-free
Categories: Travel, baggage, Luggage, carry-on item
Traveling luggage or baggage free represents both benefits and drawbacks.
Amid elevated security warnings, airport terminals across America are tacking on a myriad of carry-on restrictions. No liquids and gels makes for laborious packing and planning. Not to mention, there is the heightened risk of one’s luggage being lost. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, in 2005 some 30 million bags or six out of 1000 travelers experienced the pangs of travel with stolen, mishandled or lost luggage.
Between the long check-in lines, security checkpoints, and the hassle of schlepping luggage to and from the airport, traveling could be simplified sans baggage. The innovation of companies that ship luggage, makes traveling without baggage convenient but potentially expensive.
Here is a list of companies offering luggage and baggage delivery:
• Baggage Airline Guest Services (BAGS)
• Luggage Concierge
• Luggage Forward
• Luggage Free
• Sports Express
• Luggage Concierge
• Virtual Bell Hop
Alerts For Consumers conducted a little research to check the cost-efficacy of traveling baggage free. Here’s what we found:
Affordable rates were found at most of the luggage delivery services --- as long as travelers or passengers were willing to ship their baggage via ground – 4-5 days in advance ($80 - $110).
In the event of a baggage delivery delay, Luggage Forward extends a reimbursement of up to $500 per piece of luggage. However, consumers should beware that the Luggage Club charges a one time fee of $75 once baggage order has been processed (regardless if the luggage delivery is cancelled or not).
The ultimate deal was found at BAGS. The luggage travel delivery company is
partnered with the likes of American Airlines, Delta, Norwegian Cruises, JetBLue, US Airways, Alaska Airbus, Northwest Airlines, Continental, United, various cruise lines and hotels in 16+ American cities. Currently, BAGS offers affordable baggage-free travel for just $10/per bag; however, it may come with a few limitations, policies and stipulations.
